The Reredos
A reredos is a high altarpiece screen with images or decoration placed behind an altar. The reredos at
Saint Joseph of the Holy Family was recently restored and returned to its original location.
In addition to its restoration, the reredos contains paintings of people who are in the process of recognized sainthood or already canonized saints. The depicted faithful on the reredos have served or influenced the African-American or Latino communities. The ministries of the depicted faithful continue to be fruitful for Saint Joseph of the Holy Family and an inspiration as Christian witness to the faithful in Harlem. The paintings were done by Eduardo Bardo from London, England. It is our hope that the lives of each person whose image is placed on the reredos can inspire you and help you persevere on your own journey to sainthood.
